In the #1 New York Times bestseller The 5 Love Languages, Gary Chapman provides insight on how to cultivate and experience deeper levels of intimacy within a relationship.
What about the relationship we have with ourselves?
Now, imagine treating yourself as if you were another person on a daily basis. Are you good to yourself? Are you happy to be in a relationship with…you? Does your mind speak kindly to your body and soul?
Now, what are the actions that you take to feel that you are at your greatest? Do you feel amazing after hitting the gym? Does reading a book with a warm cup of tea comfort your soul? Do you like treating yourself to a lunch date? Do you feel energized after a therapy session? Did buying those warm, fuzzy socks make you feel well taken care of?
If you don’t know your Love Language, without having to take a quiz, then I implore you to start writing in a journal. A journal is one of the most purest ways to self awareness, especially when you use it to recap your day and list reasons for gratitude.
Personally, I suggest doing at least one from each category every week. If you like Quality Time, spend time with yourself, but also do one task from the other sections as well. Don’t get overwhelmed! Start off by just focusing on your main Love Language, then work one task from the other languages into your schedule.
