Breathe With Me Barbie Teaches Children Self Care Through Meditation

As someone who has her bouts with anxiety, I have mentioned meditation and breathing exercises to practice mindfulness. Meditation loosens the connections to particular neural pathways to protect against mental health conditions.

Meditation has the ability to lower stress by decreasing the presence of cortisol. In fact, studies have shown that mindful mediation can help students to achieve better grades. This is in part by the ability to have rapid memory recall after consistent meditation.

Breathing exercises is the action of deep breathing and focusing on the breath through counting and/or conscious awareness. Meditation and breathing exercises help to process emotions by regulating the nervous system. When we breathe deeply, it calms the mind and nervous system by triggering deep relaxation.

This is another form of education that should be taught to children. We have to start instilling into our children that they have the power to regulate themselves. We spend a large amount of time attempting to control children versus showing them that they are individuals with power over themselves.

Children have tantrums because they don’t know how to properly regulate their emotions. Consider how powerful it would be to see your child transition into a meditative state after not getting what they want versus you disciplining them into the corner for a tantrum.

Toddlers and children are far more intelligent than we think. They are sponges that soak up and grasp concepts quickly. Plant the seed and watch it grow.

Breathe With Me Barbie practices self-care by using lights and sounds for mindful meditation. The set features an extra flexible Barbie, loungewear, puppy, and four clouds.

Children simply press the button on Barbie’s necklace to activate one of the five guided meditations that use lights and sounds to inspire the child to practice.

The puppy helps Barbie to visualize, much like visualization techniques. The clouds are thought bubbles that can be replaced when a new meditation session has been started. The thought bubbles have four different emotions, which I think is great! It will help children to identify their emotions while practicing a healthy coping mechanism.

This Barbie features 15 “joints” for more realistic movement and posing at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, hips, knees and ankles. This set retails for about $19.99 and is for children who are 3 and older (due to small toy pieces).

  1. Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all. But think of if you added some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this site could definitely be one of the best in its niche. Great blog!
