Visuddha Mantra: “I SPEAK”
In total, there are seven chakras. They are said to be the source of where all energy flows through the body. Blocked chakras can lead to imbalances in life and illnesses. The fifth chakra is located in the throat region of the body. The Visuddha, the fifth chakra, is all about listening, speaking and expressing through higher forms of communication. Therefore, it is about expressing your truth authentically with others. Chakras are balanced through food choices, daily choices and rituals/routines. Here are 3 simple steps on how to balance and heal the fifth chakra.

- Transcending limitations of the mind to express self clearly and transparently
Signs Of Fifth Chakra (Visuddha) Imbalance
The Visuddha is associated with speaking your truth, needs and boundaries with the ability to listen with compassion. If there is an imbalance with the fifth chakra, then this will manifest as:
- Not expressing needs or boundaries
- Compromising your narrative for the sake of peace
- Dishonesty with self and others
- Excessive talking without regard to the other person in the conversation
- Upper respiratory problems
- Constant struggle to verbalize thoughts and opinions
Of course, you want to go for foods rich in a deep blue hue! Also, choose foods that have the ability to cleanse and lubricate your throat, such as:
- Alkaline water (I love Crystal Geyser)
- Black Pepper

The inability to communicate your truth, needs and boundaries form a wall around your heart and throat chakra. This wall has the capability to impact your other chakras. This is why self expression is so important. Blockage of the fifth chakra impacts your growth process and can bleed into your relationships (love, family and business) through destructive behavior patterns. An unblocked throat chakra results in a person being confident in their ability to express their feelings and thoughts freely. In turn, your self expression will be done with respect and authenticity.
One of the easiest ways to move toward healing your fifth chakra is to hum or chant. Sounds waves are a form of alternative healing through music therapy. Try chanting, “HAM”. Inhale deeply for four seconds and exhale while saying HHHAAAAMMMMMM.
Now, I have said it a billion times and I will say it again, JOURNAL. Grab a pen and your journal to document your thoughts and feelings daily. Make it a habit to record how you feel every day, especially when triggers or moments of discourse arise.
Practice listening to others. In listening, pay attention to their body language. Often times we feel the need to excessively express because we are defending and/or correcting an error. The body and mind are aware of inauthenticity. In no way am I saying to not express your boundaries, but be aware that truth is revealed in body language. So, don’t excessively restate the same things over and over. Listen and observe with compassion and empathy.
Finally, sometimes all you need is a scream of catharsis. Seriously. Go for a walk in nature and scream.
