As we all know, Walmart has a very small section for their plant-based and vegan products. Honestly, I forgo looking at it because I utilize other stores for their health-conscious section. However, on this particular day, I decided to take a gander and really dissect what they had on their shelves. I noticed that they had cookies, powdered eggs and… vegan tuna? Yes, vegan tuna! I looked over the ingredients and decided to grab two cans in spite of what I read. I will delve more into that later.
I did a little research and Loma Linda launched this product in partnership with Walmart. It is made from non-GMO soy protein and comes in two different varieties. They have a can version and a pouch version.

The first time I had vegan tuna was when my fiance made it for me. He used chickpeas as the base for it. After that, I started to experiment a lot with chickpeas; try my Vegan Crab Cakes.
I like for our lunch to be quick and simple. Which is usually is comprised of sandwiches or wraps. If I don’t make anything for lunch, then we eat the trusty peanut-butter and jelly sandwich with fruit and/or chips.
I was leery about buying it because the tuna is comprised of soy. We do our best to limit how much soy we ingest, so I wasn’t quite sure about purchasing it for review. However, I know that time/convenience are one of the reasons that people do not seek to change their eating lifestyle. I think this tuna is worth a try for those who are just now starting to eliminate meat from their diet. They have three different can flavors: Spring Water, Lemon Pepper, and Sriracha. I chose Lemon Pepper because they only had the first two flavors at my local Walmart.

I toasted the bread first. While toasting, I added dairy-free mayo with two cans of tuna and stirred it up in my bowl. On the bread, I added a dark, leafy green vegetable, the tuna, and slices of avocado.
The tuna already has lemon pepper seasoning to it. I did not want to overseason because I wanted the review to be about the tuna — completely.

The tuna is seasoned well and isn’t overpowering with lemon pepper. The texture is really nice. It did not change shape when I added the vegan mayo. The mayo that I used was not thick, so the tuna was falling out of the sandwich. So, watch out for that! Overall, it gets a 5/5 from me because he wanted me to make the sandwiches again (I did too)!
If you can not find it at your local Walmart, purchase the Loma Linda Plant-Based Lemon Pepper Tuna (Pack of 3) by clicking the image or the link.
