TeKeya C. is a visionary hailing from Forest Park, GA or better known as “ClayCo”. While attending Georgia State University, she minored in studio art, which is where her artistic journey began to flourish with the aid of her professor. She showcased her art with successful feedback. Te’Keya is currently working on her small painting series, which is typically comprised of small portraits and foods.
I have had the pleasure of purchasing her art and receiving a complimentary portrait of myself. I love the texture of her paintings and the manner in which she chooses to express her creativity through her subjects. Please check out the interview below and artwork she hand selected to be featured on the blog.
Te’Keya’s artwork can be viewed at http://tekeyacart.com and she can be contacted via the Contact tab on her portfolio site for commission inquiries and tarot readings. She can also be followed on her Instagram HERE.
- Where do you draw your artistic inspiration?
“I draw everywhere. I take my sketchbook, markers, and paint with me everywhere I go. Sometimes I paint at various bakeries and coffee shops. When I’m at home I paint in my room, backyard, and even the bathroom lol ! If I’m driving, I’ll pull over on the side of the road and draw in my car. Wherever creativity hits me, that place becomes my studio.”
- How would you describe your artistic style?
“I would describe my style as impressionist art. It’s a style that originated in France in the 1860s. My main focus is portraying a moment with light, shadows, and bold paint strokes to create a visual impression without achieving an accurate depiction.”
- What is your favorite project or collection?
“My favorite collection are my portraits.”
- If you could time travel, what time period in art would you want to travel to at this moment? Why?
“The 70s! Art was funky and psychedelic then. I like the bright colors and patterns.”
- What are some of the challenges you face as an artist?
“It’s hard for me to balance my careers. I’m passionate about psychology and art. For a moment, I felt as if I could only choose one passion. I get depressed when I’m not creating enough due to working, meetings, and studying. Gratefully, I have a support system/team that keeps me focused on both.”
- What’s your favorite food spot in Atlanta?
“Dr Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party. I always order samosas and blueberry tea. It’s very cozy and small inside. Definitely a hidden gem in Atlanta.”
- Artistically speaking, what’s one thing that people do not know about you?
“I spray a holy water and rose water mixture on to my paintings when it’s complete.”
- Are there any quotes, words or affirmation that you live by
“I live by Psalms 35. It’s a protection prayer. It keeps the enemies away. Reminds me that god has my back throughout my journey. It helps me strengthen my discernment and faith.”
