How To Make Homemade Stage 2 Baby Food Puree

I started making my son puree after he started to become more and more interested in table food. Instead of buying his baby food, I opted to make it at home. When making your baby’s food, not only do you know what is in it, you can also save a great deal of money! Baby food can get expensive and I am not just speaking about the purees. So, insted of complaining about the ingredients in some of the foods and the price — I made my own for him. I did some research and found that some baby foods have harsh components in them from the packaging too. Yikies!

He is weaning himself off of breastmilk with Baby Led Weaning, but I make purees for when I am eating something that he can not necessarily eat. The puree recipes you will see in the video are considred Stage 2 because they are chunkier in consistency, different combinations of food and have spices in them. When you watch the video, you will see that I blend it just enough, but not too much so that it does not lose chunks. He knows how to chew, so I want to make sure that I encourage him to do that when he eats by giving him chunks.

For optimal quality, keep baby food cubes in the freezer for 3 months. However, they can last for up to 6 months, if kept away from the freezer door. You can reheat the cubes over a double broiler, in the refrigerator or in the microwave over 15 seconds. I recommend the refrigerator or the double broiler to retain all of the nutrients. Do not re-freeze and throw away any un-used re-heated baby food within 24 hours.
